i am an artist. i see the world through a creative kaleidoscope of color. each shade represents a different medium of design, an endless realm of possibility.
as a kid i wrote poetry and sketched floor plans of my bedroom with different furniture layouts. when i “grew up” i went to school for graphic art and design with a side of creative writing. i got a job at a print shop making logos and tee shirts and the occasional promotional product. one day my boss closed shop and i found myself searching for my next adventure. so began my world of architectural drafting and design – concept plans, floor plans, elevations, 3d models and 2d renderings. material packets, presentation boards and RFP submittals. it was love. [and the bonus was i got to do all of company marketing materials, web design and the occasional promotional product too.] 10 years later the market turned and i started my family.
and then i was hit with an incredible grief. my middle daughter was stillborn. that pain propelled me into a new area of design, an outlet. and so became delivering hope and eventually somewhere over the rainbow. i was crafting, creating product, marketing a business and helping others all at the same time. i did a video series for eHow. i blogged. i learned a great deal about social media management and writing press releases. and i published five books. one i even illustrated. all in five years time.
and i then found my way back to floor plans and interiors. i found my way to embracing each area of design with the same passion as the others. and every day i learn and grow.
i wonder what digital page i can add to my portfolio next.
